Description
This range-topping P.Maurat is a great all-round sax with the flexibility to produce all styles of music.
In designing the Master 97 P.Mauriat focused their attention on the requirements of the most demanding players.
The result is a tenor with a complex sound palette, fluid action, very accurate tuning and stunning aesthetics. A fully professional saxophone that employs a new body design as well as numerous ergonomic upgrades. It includes a dual alloy construction, utilizing a gold brass neck and sterling silver octave pips.
P Mauriat have applied the usual attention to detail and given us a robust and solid design, paying particular attention to the smoothness and efficiency of the key action.
As a slight departure from the huge breadth of sound that the 66R series is capable of producing, the Master 97 targets more of a focused sound, but still with strong elements of the 66R essence. In this sense, it opens itself up to a multitude of differing playing styles. Additionally, if the 'vintage' appearance isn't so much your thing, the Master 97 has more of a traditional aesthetic, with its gold lacquer finish and its stunning hand engraving to complete the look.

Staff review
Wow, I think I've just discovered a hidden gem of a sax nestled amongst P Mauriat's extensive range. We are always talking about the 66R and System 76 models but let's take a moment to appreciate the absolute quality of the Masters 97. For us at SAX this model has been quite late to the party, and I'm now slightly regretful I didn't discover it sooner.
For a start, it has an extremely refined mechanism - beautifully engineered and feeling great under the fingers. The octave mechanism is quiet and smooth, with a very minimal action. The key action is respectably light such that when playing this for the first time every note popped out as directed. As for the sound, it has that beautiful fullness we come to expect with P Mauriat - but it's also incredibly responsive down to the low Bb, which has a glowing, rich sound.
I feel a little more focused in the sound in comparison to the 66R, but within this there's a fatness and vintage quality. It's a great balance of all the elements. And to top it off, the detailed engraving looks stunning. Jim Cheek
