Staff review
This horn is incredibly free blowing, it is certainly up there with the Yanagisawa range for effortless response. At low volumes it plays warm, light and rich (very Gerry Mulligan) while when a lot of air is put through it can roar like a lion with the right mouthpiece. (Mauriats in general seem to love having a lot of air put through them- really responding well when played powerfully, and the 300DK is no exception). The key action is comfortable and light, even getting around the lowest notes is very effortless. The sound feels a bit warmer and rounder compared to the unlacquered and cognac finish.
