Description

Sax legend Bob Mintzer & award-winning saxophonist Alex Hahn's first choice of saxophone. A serious heavyweight addition to our pro sax range

The 52nd Street Alto captures a classic vintage sound – full-bodied and free-blowing – and combines this with wonderful ergonomics.

The 52nd Street saxophone is a professional instrument and comes unlacquered for a truly vintage appearance. It is an exceptionally responsive horn in all registers from low to high and produces a big, fat sound with precise intonation. A larger bell and rolled-style tone holes contribute to the sound qualities of this instrument that many compare to some of the great vintage horns of the past. Solid construction with comfortable hand position and extras such as adjustable palm keys.

Unlacquered Finish

Many unlacquered saxophones begin life with a polished finish that is visually similar to a standard lacquered instrument. However, as soon as the saxophone leaves the factory, the tarnishing process will begin.  This will give the saxophone a real vintage appeal, the envy of all jazzers out there. This will also explain why it may have signs of aging when you receive it.

Aurally, this means the material has complete freedom of movement for resonance. This will give the tone a fullness on the fringes of the note playing, really filling the space and giving the bottom end especially a real presence.

 Reviews

This alto has a lovely feel of depth in tone to me, so immediately appealing. There are a few other modern saxes that are going for this concept of vintage sound combined with modern ergonomics but I honestly think that Eastman are right up there amongst the best with this horn. There is a huge amount of spread in the sound, surely helped on by the big bell, which is hand-hammered, the rolled tone holes and whatever secret formula they use for their brass sourcing! - Jim - SAX
