JodyJazz DV New York - Tenor Sax Mouthpiece
Description
A DARKER, LESS BRIGHT TONE THAN THE CONTEMPORARY SOUND OF THE DV
The difference between the DV and the DV NY is most noticeable in the baffle; this is the metal ledge that leads from the mouthpiece tip before dropping into the chamber. On the NY this is very low indeed, meaning that the 'drop' into the main chamber is not nearly as severe. This gives the NY a slightly less aggressive projection than the standard DV - but nevertheless retains a very big tone. Sub tones seem to be naturally warmer with the NY and the top notes cut very clearly. I would say there is flexibility with this mouthpiece that is perhaps missing from some of the other, more raucous, top-end mouthpieces. A very good all-rounder which promises a maturation of tone.
Effortless Power & Beauty
Jody Espina has introduced the concept of Golden Section Proportions to the art of high-end saxophone mouthpiece design. This perfect chamber/bore/facing combination will result in an extraordinary playing experience for you.
The DV NY produces a darker, less bright tone than the contemporary sound of the DV. The deep baffle/chamber design of the DV NY produces a beautiful Classic Jazz Tenor sound reminiscent of the masters of the 40's, 50’s and 60’s.
Three Goals in Creating the DV Series of Saxophone Mouthpieces
1. To create the most efficient mouthpiece possible. That means that there are more harmonics present in the sound and therefore the projection of this tenor sax mouthpiece is huge.
2. To eliminate the annoying shrillness that is associated with loud bright tenor saxophone mouthpieces.
3. To have a big fat midrange and bottom end that has never been present before in a tenor mouthpiece with strong projection.
DV Vs DV NY - How are they different?
Both mouthpieces have a full resonant sound due to the secondary window. The DV will have more projection and be brighter due to the raised floor of the chamber while the DV NY will have a more traditional Jazz sound and projection due to the deep full chamber. We often recommend trying both mouthpieces if you are not sure which model would suit you.
