A fantastic example of a Selmer cigar cutter dating back to 1932
It is in great condition and is a stunning horn to look at, having been relacquered in a dark gold finish, with the engraving still nice and crisp. These are charming saxes to behold, with their design quite different to the saxes that would follow, and the odd little details like the round pearl G# key!
The character of the sound is also unique with it's smaller, more focused sound than it's American contemporaries but a softer voice than the classic Selmer horns of the 40s - 60s. The sound has a very warm resistance and a thickness to it when you push the dynamics, a balance between the sweeter tones of the swing era and the more focused sound of alto players like Paul Desmond or Lee Konitz. The sax is in great playing condition, having only required a small amount of adjustment by our workshop team. It plays effortlessly to low Bb and the key work has a nice light, even action.
